Merseyside Labour Leaders Bust Up

Merseyside Labour Leaders have laid into each other big-style with accusations of ‘liar’ and ‘toytown politics. The six Merseyside council bosses, all Labour, have split once again on the Metro Mayor issue, which would see a single politician controlling Wirral to Southport, Seaforth to Newton le Willows.  Their New Year’s resolution appears to be to kick bigger chunks out of each other than Lib Dems or Tories have ever done to them.
Only Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson and his sidekick, Bootle’s Peter Dowd, are prepared to accept the Tories metro mayor plan being pushed by Eric Pickles and George Osborne. The other four want nothing to do with it and have gone to national newspapers accusing Joe of pretending that they support him.

Joe Anderson says that residents in Huyton, Dovecot or Knowsley  ”all regard themselves as Scousers and “that’s why we should be working together.” What about residents of Southport?
