International best selling author, Manfred Kuhlmann, arrives in Southport next week to promote his new Merseybeat book, ‘Beat Waves ‘Cross the Merrsey’.

This is a revised version of his long out of print best-seller, ‘The Sound With the Pound’, with an additional 142 illustrations and 112 pages making a comprehensive anthology of the ‘Merseybeat’ era, totalling the complete stories of 164 Merseyside groups, plus an additional 100 line-ups and a list of 344 group names, for a total of 607 groups that were active on Merseyside in the late 1950’s to the end of the Sixties.

A successful German club owner and impresario, Manfred also has a second title just released called ‘Some Other Guys’ which features the complete stories of another 66 Merseyside groups of the 1960’s. NONE of these stories are included in “Beat Waves ‘Cross The Mersey” and this book includes an additional 104 line-ups, making a total of 174 groups!

There is also a set of three CD’s that complement the stories in the books which feature original recordings from the 1960’s, many of them never previously released plus some live recordings from the famous Liverpool clubs, all digitally re-mastered.

He will also be guest of honour at Alex Paton’s Reunion Night of Sixties Southport Groups at Birkdale Conservative Club at 7.30pm on Wednesday May 29th.
