Meet birds of prey at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre (near Southport) October 4th, 2013 admin Latest News Shares Comments Meet birds of prey at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre A new event is taking place at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre on Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 October to offer visitors a fantastic opportunity to get up close and personal with birds of prey. Wild birds of prey are regular visitors to WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre, but due to their speed and agility it is often difficult to get a really good look at them. So for two days in October, WWT Martin Mere is giving visitors the chance to see these magnificent raptors up close. Falcons, owls and hawks will be here with their handler from Cuerden Birds of Prey. With their keen senses and aerial agility these avian hunters are perfectly adapted for seeking and catching their prey. This is a great chance to see their fierce talons and bills, and stunning plumage at first hand. Centre Manager, Nick Brooks, said: “Events that include animals are very popular at WWT Martin Mere and we wanted to trial an event this year that was focused on birds of prey so that we are always offering something new for visitors to enjoy. I am sure that this will be a popular start to the October half term holiday; everything is included in the admission price and the exhibits are all indoors so it will be a fantastic day out regardless of weather.” What you can do at the event: Free – Meet a huge selection of birds of prey including owls and hawks Free – Dissect an owl pellet between 1.30pm and 3pm Free – See what you can find in the ponds whilst pond dipping between 11am and 12.30pm Free – Have a go at building a den out of natural materials Free – watch our otter family feed at 11.30am and 2.30pm The event is taking place from 10am to 4pm and normal admission prices will apply to enter the Centre.
