Burscough trounced by Trafford at Victoria Park

Burscough were comprehensively blown away this afternoon by a free flowing Trafford FC.

The hosts were behind within the first minute as an unmarked Lee Neville made a late run to the back post from a deep Trafford corner, his first time left footed strike nestled the back of the net. Leading up to the corner there was an early shout for a penalty for this visitors but referee Richard Holmes waved appeals away.

Trafford continued to press and were first to almost every first and second ball. Burscough lacked a sense of urgency which was being exploited by every Trafford player. Further chances were created but nothing to trouble Linnets ‘keeper Richie Mottram.

Trafford seemed to outnumber Burscough midfield using their full backs to add the extra numbers.. As much as Burscough were poor in the first half, credit has to go to Trafford. Today they showed why they are near the top of the league.

Trafford almost doubled their lead on the half hour mark as Ashley woods found himself unmarked inside the 6-yard-box.

Not long after Trafford did make it two. Again from a corner, despite a succession of saves from Mottram the loose ball fell to Arron Burns who made no mistake with a right footed strike to pile further misery onto The Linnets.

Burscough did create one opportunity just after the restart but Elliot Nevitt’s effort sailed over the bar. That was the closest they came all afternoon.

Midway through the second half and Keith McCann made a few changes to try and inspire his team and add some fresh legs. Recce McNally, who was often a passenger in the game was replaced by Liam Davies.

On the 65th Minute Arron Burns added his second and Trafford’s third, yet again from a corner. Burscough failed to deal with another and after the third goal their heads dropped.

The visitors again continued to create chances and the score could have been four, five, possibly six.

To make matters worse for the Burscough faithful, the team and the management Elliot Nevitt displayed his frustration saw red in the last few minutes of the game. His rash challenge on Lee Neville saw no arguments from himself or any of his team mates. The pair did exchange words several minutes earlier.

Trafford deservedly take all three points as they were far superior and continue their superb away from.

Burscough will have to move on from this game quickly. The Linnets have performed a lot better in recent weeks and still have significant time to survive relegation.
