Man Dies Following Poulton Road House Fire Southport

Firefighters were called out to a serious fire at a house in Southport.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service attended the property on Poulton Road at around 11.30am on Tuesday, March 10.

An 89-year-old man was retrieved from the property by firefighters and was handed over to the care of paramedics but sadly later died.

Two fire appliances from Southport Community Fire Station and a fire appliance from Formby Community Fire Station were called out. Firefighters were at the scene until just after 1.10pm.

Station Manager Franny Hill said: “Firefighters extinguished the fire and rescued a man from the property and he was handed over to paramedics, however, he was sadly declared deceased at the scene.

“The fire involved a back room of the property and was contained to that room.

“An investigation is being carried out to determine the cause of the fire.

“A reassurance campaign will be held in the surrounding area following the incident.”

Firefighters along with Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service (MF&RS) fire prevention staff will visit homes during the reassurance campaign where they will offer fire safety advice, fit smoke alarms and carry out Home Fire Safety Checks.
