Local MG club go to Tatton Park

Report by: S.Kirton on behalf of W.L.MG.O.C

Tatton Park is a National Trust Property in Knutsford, Cheshire. The park has 1,000 acres of beautiful deer park and is the former Egerton family home.

This event is a massive showcase for motoring down the decades, and invites the biggest and best car clubs from around the country to bring their vehicles to the show and enter into the prestige awards so West Lancs MG Owners Club don’t miss out on this north west gathering to bring a few cars to the event!

This year was the shows 30th anniversary it was a bit special with around 2,000 cars on show over the two days of the weekend.

We brought 12 cars to the show along with 19 members and the car line up was 1 MG-TD,1 Magnette,1 MG-TC,1 RV8,1 MGB,1 MGC,3 MGF’s,3 MGB-GT’s of which one was a V8.

The weather for the show could not have been better as it was a early start 08.30 and full sunshine as we all met up at the garage at four lane ends in Bickerstaff for a forty minute drive to Tatton Park in convoy to arrive early to beat the crowds. As the day moved on the temperature reached 27 Celsius (or 81 degrees in old money) and just seemed to get hotter with people starting to flag a little bit in-between 14.00 and 16.00.

Even the punters who brought their dogs along for a walk around the show had to seek shade and water for themselves and their dogs of which the showing cars seemed to have a plentiful supply of with bowls full of water for the dogs to have a quick slurp of every few yards.

ots-mg3Unfortunately this year non of our cars won anything but there’s always next time!!

There’s also the auto-jumble and specialist and general trade stand area with around 200 stalls selling classic car supplies and surplus. Also children’s rides and a bar for the grown ups and plenty of catering vans for tea/coffee and burgers/hot-dogs with the ice cream van lady doing a roaring trade with endless queues all day.

So if you have never been to this event before i can only say GO,GO,GO as this spectacular northern event has something for everyone from grandad to granddaughter with everything in between.

And if you like socialising, car runs whilst having a bit of fun with like minded people and have a classic car you would be most welcome to join the W.L.MG.O.C we meet every third Thursday 8.00pm at Briars Hall Lathom or check out our Facebook page (West Lancs MG Owners) or even have a look at are website www.westlancsmg.co.uk
