Liverpool Senior Cup final Result Bootle 0 – Tranmere Rovers 2

By Connor O’Neill

Tranmere Rovers claimed the Liverpool Senior Cup with a 2-0 victory over reigning champions Bootle at Prenton Park.

Despite the league one outfit fielding as strong team it was the holders who started the brighter and they could have been in front inside the opening minute. Daniel O’Connor met Grant Pruden’s cross- but Rovers goalkeeper Sam Ramsbottom comfortably saved O’Connor’s effort from close range.

Rovers awoke from their early wakeup call and took the lead with just under 20 minutes gone. James Rowe finished Abdul Baggie cross from just outside the Bootle penalty area.

The Bucks however rallied well and created a golden chance to level. Grant Pruden picked out Jack McDowell, but Ramsbottom was on-hand to block McDowell’s goal bound effort.

Five minutes later and Bucks had another chance to level.  This time Grant Pruden saw his shot blocked inside the area by Rovers captain Antonie Boland.

Rovers weathered the Bucks storm well and soon had the chance to double their advantage; Cole Stockton saw his low drive pushed away by Bucks keeper Dean Porter.

The second half started at a much slower pace than the first. However, Rovers went close to doubling their advantage. First Jake Kirby headed Abdulai Baggie’s cross over. Before Rovers had another chance to double their advantage just after the hour-mark. Jake Kirby fired over after being set-up by Cole Stockton on the edge of the area.

Rovers did however, double their advantage in the 69th minute. James Rowe’s superb pass was met by Abdulai Baggie, who finished first time past the on-rushing Porter.

Stockton soon had the chance to wrap the game up for Rovers as he rounded Porter, but Bucks captain Jamie Hay was on-hand to clear off the line.

The missed chances weren’t to matter as Rovers saw the game out to claim a 2-0 victory over the current holders. Bootle however, can be proud of their performance and run in the competition. This night however, was to belong to Rovers who claimed the Liverpool Senior Cup for the first time since 2012.
