Body Found under Southport train footbridge

A person has been found dead on the railway track near Southport station.

Police were called to the scene at 6:10am, following reports of a body on the line.

Emergency services attended but sadly the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is being treated as non-suspicious.

Update: 8:00am

Police have closed off the footbridge between Virginia Street and Asda – reports coming that a person has jumped.

An OTS reader has said: “No trains southport to Manchester, someone jumped from footbridge next to asda, Liverpool trains running fine.
