Lib Dems’ Watchdog Maternity Investigation call

A local health watchdog has called for local councillors to urgently investigate Southport & Formby’s Maternity & Gynaecology services.

Local Lib Dem health spokesperson, Councillor Tony Dawson, has asked Cllr Catie Page, Chair of the Council’s Health Scrutiny Committee to convene a meeting urgently to consider the recent findings of the Care Quality Commission that Ormskirk Hospital’s Maternity & Gynaecological Services are ‘inadequate’ and ‘lack leadership’.

Cllr Dawson says:

“This report has been delayed many months in being published. I am sure that the hospital managers will already have taken a number of steps to address the report’s criticisms in the time since the CQC visited last year. Nevertheless, local elected representatives and  ‘Healthwatch Sefton’ both have a duty to the public of Southport & Formby to ensure that we know exactly what has been identified as requiring improvement and that we are satisfied with the steps being taken to improve things for patients and the unborn children.”

“I am disappointed that the CQC has not shared its draft findings earlier and directly with the local Health Scrutiny bodies including Healthwatch Sefton.”
