‘Sexual predator’ sentenced for two sex attacks

A MAN has today (Friday 18 December) been jailed following sex assaults on a man and a boy.

Graham Pipes, 49 of HMP Preston was sentenced to five years and four months imprisonment at Preston Crown Court for separate attacks that happened in 2009 and 1985.

The most recent incident happened in the summer of 2009 at Leisure Lakes campsite in Tarleton when the victim, a 21-year-old man, woke up as Pipes was sexually assaulting him.

The victim was so traumatised that he was only able to come forward and report it to the police some years later in October 2014.

The first attack was the historic rape of a seven year old boy who Pipes was babysitting at an address in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. Pipes repeatedly denied the offence for a number of years until he was eventually charged in June this year. He pleaded guilty to the assault in October.

DC Catherine Thomas from the Public Protection Unit said: “Graham Pipes is an opportunistic sexual predator who took advantage of a both vulnerable man and a young boy to satisfy his own perverse sexual desires.

“He showed no remorse or consideration for his victims, in particular the child whose innocence he stole, by denying the offence for years before he eventually did the decent thing and admitted it.

“Both victims have shown considerable bravery in coming forward and I hope that today’s result provides them with some solace so that they can start to move forward with their lives.

“I would like to reassure the public that we remain committed to investigating allegations of sexual offences, no matter how historic, and we would encourage anyone who has been a victim to come forward where they will be treated sensitively and professionally.”
