Lapsley Raises Thousands Of Pounds For Hospice

A concert by international singer songwriter Låpsley raised more than £3,000 for Queenscourt Hospice.

Holly Lapsley Fletcher, now known to millions as Låpsley, performed the one off concert at Greenbank High School on Saturday night.

The sold out concert at her former school, marked the start of a series of events being held to mark Queenscourt Hospice’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

Nicola Hanna, Head of Income Generation at Queenscourt Hospice, said: “The concert was amazing and we are so grateful to Holly for taking the time out of her very busy schedule to perform for us. We would also like to thank Dan Astles who supported her and also gave up his time for free. They are both incredibly talented and it was wonderful to see so many people there to support them and raise vital funds for the hospice.

“The event raised just over £3,000 which is fantastic! We have many more events coming up in the next few months to mark our 25th anniversary and we hope to have a great year of fundraising. We are very proud of what has been achieved in the past 25 years and we want to be able to continue to provide excellent care to people in the area well into the future.”

The hospice relies on donations from the public to help with the £3 million a year running costs.

Holly started producing and writing music when she was at sixth form in Formby and was discovered on Sound Cloud. She is now signed to XL Recordings, the same label as Adele.

The 19 year old took time out of her worldwide tour to come back to her home town and perform. Since the weekend, she has performed in Amsterdam on Monday and Paris on Tuesday.

Holly said: “I wanted to do the concert to support an amazing charity who looked after my grandma in the 90s.

“There were lots of old friends, teachers and family members there on Saturday and it was definitely more nerve wracking than other concerts I’ve done but it was all about raising money for such a good cause.

“Sometimes it’s easy to have the comfort of the band around you and all the lights and you get into show mode. But this was really stripped back with just me and the keyboard player on stage and everywhere I looked I saw friends and family, but I had to just think that I was doing it for charity.”

She was supported by 17-year-old Daniel Astles, a fellow Southport singer songwriter. Daniel, a student at Liverpool City College and former pupil of Birkdale High School, said that sharing a stage with Holly had really inspired him to push forward with his singing.

He said: “I was made up with how the show went. When Holly first asked me, I couldn’t wait. I love her music, and to play for such a great charity was fantastic. I was really nervous about the show before hand but I thought it went really well and the audience was amazing.

“Massive thank you to Lapsley and her family, and to Queenscourt for letting me play and to everyone who came and raised so much money. It makes me proud to live in Southport.”

Queenscourt Hospice opened its doors to the hospice on Town Lane, Kew in June 1991 and since then they have cared for thousands of patients from Southport, Formby and West Lancashire.

The hospice has 10 beds for in patients but also has the Queenscourt at Home service providing the same high level of care to patients in their own home.

The Terence Burgess Education Centre at Queenscourt provides training to doctors, carers, nurses and care home staff, significantly increasing their skills to care for patients who are reaching the end of their life.
