Lancashire County Council’s award-winning pensions team, “Your Pension Service” has won the contract to administer Merseyside’s Firefighters’ Pension Schemes from 1 April 2015.

The move will see the service administer the pensions of 2,661 active and retired Firefighters.

This is the latest win for “Your Pension Service” which already administers pension schemes for Lancashire County Council, Cumbria County Council, Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service and Cumbria’s Fire & Rescue Service. The service also forms a key part of the Lancashire County Pension Fund’s developing collaboration with the London Pension Fund Authority.

Ian Cummins from Merseyside Fire Authority, said: “The new 2015 Firefighter Pension scheme compounded the existing challenges the Authority faced in managing the firefighter pension schemes.

“One of the key areas we identified as essential was the communication with our firefighter on what the new scheme would mean to them. The challenge of moving to a new pension scheme while keeping our members fully informed of the changes meant we were keen to choose an organisation with a track record of delivery in this area.
.
“I’m positive that we can benefit from Your Pension Service’s experience of successfully communicating change. By moving to YPS it will mean three of the largest fire services will now share the same pension administrator and this will offer an opportunity for greater collaboration between Lancashire, Cumbria and Merseyside Fire and Rescue services in meeting the pension challenge. Hopefully together we can deliver the best pension service for our firefighters”

Diane Lister, Head of Your Pension Service, said: “Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service’s decision reflects the confidence that our public sector partners have in the efficient way in which we deliver pensions administration.

“We’re delighted to be working with our new clients. We’ve already developed excellent working relationships with other public sector organisations and are pleased to have another new customer.”
