Labour’s parliamentary candidate starts petition to challenge Breast Care service closure at Southport Hospital September 27th, 2014 admin Latest News Shares Comments Liz starts petition to challenge Breast Care service closure at Southport Hospital Following the news that Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust have informed residents that the Breast Care Services are closing to new patients as of 1st September 2014, Liz Savage, Southport Labour’s parliamentary candidate, has started a petition to the Trust to help prevent the closure. Liz said “I know from talking to residents that people are extremely concerned about the loss of this important service. Local people really value the support of the staff who run the service at Southport Hospital, and it’s important that this service continues to be provided locally. I’m determined to challenge this decision and I hope Southport residents will help me to do that by signing the petition, it only takes 30 seconds.” The petition reads as follows: “It’s important that when people are facing the prospect or dealing with cancer that they are seen at a hospital local to them and one they are familiar with. This relieves the stress for many of dealing with public transport and travelling to an unfamiliar place. The Trust have informed residents that the Breast Care Services are closing to new patients as of 1st September 2014,without consultation with local residents, as they are unable to recruit a radiologist. This is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Please sign this petition and tell Southport and Ormskirk Hospital Trust that we want to be treated locally and that we don’t want our services centralised in Liverpool or elsewhere.” The petition can be signed online at: https://www.change.org/p/southport-and-ormskirk-hospital-trust-to-continue-to-recruit-a-radiologist-for-the-breast-care-services-to-prevent-closure-to-this-important-unit-at-the-trust Submit News Contact us with your community, business or sport news.
