KGV Students explore Parisian Art & Culture

ICONIC paintings and world famous landmarks were viewed by KGV students when they jetted out to Paris.

The gifted group of 20 French A level and Art students got up close to paintings and sculptures by Manet, Monet, and Picasso as well as the Mona Lisa.

They were plunged into Parisian life from the outset, travelling by Métro as well as on foot and enjoying food in exciting cafés and brasseries in the left bank and the Latin Quarter.  The group also got the chance to view the beauty of the stunning Parisian skyline, the Boulevard St Michel and the Eiffel Tower.

Claire Barré, French A level course leader, said: ‘This was a wonderful opportunity for KGV students to fully immerse themselves in French. They got a rare chance to view some of the world’s most famous works of art and architectural highlights, as well as develop their linguistic and cultural knowledge of French.

‘This is among the many aspirational and academic opportunities on offer at King George V College.’

Students viewed the beauty of iconic artworks in a range of renowned galleries and museums, from the classical and antique collections of the Louvre, to the shimmering impressionism of the Musée d’Orsay and the celebrated post modernism of the Pompidou museum.

Suzanne Knowles, course leader of A level Art, said: ‘The Paris trip was a fantastic opportunity for our students to really engage with some of the world’s greatest works of art. Primary, first hand research experiences such as gallery trips are a vital part of the Art and Design A-Level experience.

‘We are also due to host a workshop from the Royal Academy of Arts in March, when students will have the opportunity to work with visiting artists from the Royal Academy London, on site here at KGV!’

King George V College has notched up a string of academic success, with 85% of French A level students achieving high grades last summer – 20 per cent higher than the national average – and one student gaining entry to Oxford to read A level French.

Similarly, A level Art and design has long since enjoyed academic excellence at KGV, with the latest outstanding results of 100% high grades in Photography and Textiles and 96% in Fine Art A level.
