Keep Warm Keep Well Event at the Atkinson

Sefton Council, in partnership with Sefton OPERA, are tackling fuel poverty in the area with a special Keep Warm Keep Well event, as part of the national Warm Homes Campaign.

The campaign is run by fuel poverty charity National Energy Action (NEA), which aims to raise awareness of the problem and some of the solutions available for those struggling to heat their homes affordably.

The aim is to provide advice and information (as well as freebies) to Sefton residents, to assist them to keep warm and healthy in their homes (through access to grants, increasing income and improving energy efficiency). There will be stalls from a variety of other local organisations including welfare rights and home improvements, as well as some fun activities, such as tai chi and massages.

Cllr Trish Hardy, Cabinet Member Communities and Housing, said: “Sadly fuel poverty is a serious and growing concern, with some households in Sefton unable to afford to properly heat their homes. Through the Warm Homes Campaign we hope to improve the life chances of residents who are struggling with their fuel bills and ensure they can stay warm and healthy in their homes this winter.”

Mrs P, 85, who was helped at a previous Keep Warm Keep Well event said: “I obtained some great advice and information. As well as being able to make my home warmer, my income increased as a referral made at the event was successful”.

The event takes place at the Atkinson, Lord Street, Southport from 11am-12.30pm on Monday, January 16, followed by an over 50’s tea dance from 1.30pm.
