Under 9 Jim Rourke Trophy Final Southport FC Yellow P-P Redgate Yellow

Under 9 Leopards Although Formby JSC Whites won 4-1, the result should have been much closer. Formby Whites started off on fire, playing some great football with link play in midfield from Dan Griffin, Jack Lemmens and Ben Williams. The opening goal saw Joe Blanchard’s long pass to John Johnson controlled beautifully, Johnson turned on a sixpence and hit a 15 yard drive into the top corner. Further chances fell to Formby, but they only went in 1-0 up at half time. In the second half Southport Trinity White showed why they are top of the league and they bombarded the Formby goal but great defending from Nick Abbot and Joe Blanchard kept them at bay. When they did get past the defence Toby Gladwin in goal was outstanding. Formby JSC Whites got their second after great work from Joe Johnson, whose shot from the left hit the bar and Ben Williams converted the rebound. Trinity then pulled a goal back when Toby Gladwin stopped a shot on the line, but after frantic calls from Trinity supporters, the ref said it crossed the line and gave a goal. Further pressure from Trinity followed and only the impeccable Toby Gladwin in goal kept them at bay. Formby wrapped the game up with 2 late goals, one from a great Joe Johnson run that set up Ben Williams again and the 4th goal followed great work from Jack Lemmens, who set up Ben Williams to score his first ever hattrick. 4-1 flattered Formby JSC Whites, but you have to take your chances in this game, as we have found out so many times this season. Work rate from Elliot Cooper, Harvey Cartwright and Kieran Hall was exceptional. Every game is like a Cup Final in this league with the quality of all teams exceptional.
