Just Voices is Born! (Southport) September 13th, 2013 admin Latest News Shares Comments Just Voices is born! After almost 23 years Lord Street Parade Ladies Barbershop Chorus is entering a new era with the launch of a new chorus name Just Voices and a new Musical Director, Sharon King. Just Voices are a dedicated bunch of acapella singers that love the sound of barbershop and close harmonies. They are inviting ladies that sing to come along and experience a three week introduction to harmony and acapella singing starting Monday 16th September at 7.30pm. This is a great opportunity to try something new and hopefully join an established singing group. “We are very excited about the future of the chorus” says one of the founder members Doreen Ramsbottom, “Last year our Musical Director of 18 years Margaret Hughes retired. She was a much loved lady and we knew she would be a hard act to follow so the search for a new MD was a difficult one. Five months ago after much searching to find someone suitable, we were incredibly lucky to find Sharon King. Her expertise and skills as a singing consultant has seen her work with Broadway and West End star Michael Ball both as backing vocalist and harmony arranger and work with conductors Sir Carl Davis and Nic Raine, plus Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Sharon has wealth of musical and performance knowledge and is the founder and principal of The Talent Factory in Ainsdale. She has brought a new energy to the chorus so we felt a new name would reflect a new chapter for the chorus.” With Sharon as new leader and only the third Musical Director in 23 years, Just Voices couldn’t be happier and they all look forward to the future of the chorus with enthusiasm and confidence as they learn and practise new lively songs for future sing outs. The chorus sing for demonstrations, weddings, and competitions and have helped local charities and causes raise hundreds of pounds. The feeling you get when you walk in on their Monday night rehearsal is one of fun, friendship and welcoming. The ladies strive to preserve the art of barbershop singing and have wide ranging repertoire from traditional to more contemporary songs given four part harmony treatment. If you are a lady that sings and would like to book a place on Just Voices three week course to Introduction to Harmony Singing or require further information please contact either Shelagh Parsons on 01704 833538 or Sharon King on 07842 117495. Just Voices meet at St Teresa’s Club, Upper Aughton Road, Southport, every Monday at 7.30pm. Related Comments comments!
