Just a few days left to make a Will for free (Southport)

A Southport law firm is urging people to put making a Will top of their to-do list by offering to waive its legal fees. Eve Austin who is a Will specialist at Birchall Blackburn Law based on Cambridge Road explains.

Over 70 per cent of the UK population don’t actually have a Will. This is concerning because if the worst happens, their estate won’t be handled as they’d have liked, running the risk of assets such as property, shares, savings and personal possessions not being passed over to the surviving partner, family or close friend if someone dies.

In our experience, the biggest misunderstanding around Wills seems to be the idea that a person’s estate ‘automatically’ goes to their spouse if they die.

Without a valid Will, the way in which assets are dealt with is done in accordance with intestacy laws and take no account whatsoever of personal wishes or family circumstances.

Making a legally binding Will via a regulated solicitor is the only way that you can ensure that your wishes are taken into account after you are gone.

We’ve joined a national initiative called ‘Make a Will Month’ to raise awareness of the importance of having a Will in place. For complete peace of mind, or to ensure a previously drafted Will is brought up to date, you can speak to our experts during April and you won’t have to pay. Instead you can donate funds to QueensCourt Hospice.

Simply book an appointment to arrange a meeting to take place on or before the 30th April 2015.

Solicitors will not charge you for their time, only suggest a minimum donation to QueensCourt Hospice of £90 for a new Will, £135 for a joint Will, or £40 to amend an existing Will.

Our lawyers are highly qualified Wills specialists and offer expert advice following a no-obligation consultation to assess your needs. For more information, or to prepare your Will, call us on 0800 614 722.
