John Pugh MP has questioned plans that will see police stations in Southport close October 27th, 2014 jmr jmr Latest News Shares Comments John Pugh MP has questioned plans that will see police stations in Southport close. The closures are part of a shake-up by Labour’s Merseyside Crime Commissioner Jane Kennedy that will see police stations replaced by “community stations”. While Southport will become Sefton’s principal operating headquarters, Ainsdale will be sold-off and and replaced by a community station. Questioning the decision, John Pugh, said: “What people in Southport need to know is how this will work from day to day on the ground. “The term ‘community stations’ is too vague. We need to know how the beats will work, how officers will be working round the communities they serve. “I urge everyone that is interested in the proposals to visit their local consultation meeting, listen to plans and put forward any concerns they may have. Having a good quality local police service is too important to stay silent on.” To see the changes and take part in the consultation please visit www.takingtherightsteps.com.
