I have eaten at some very good restaurants and some very bad restaurants across the British Isles. I have had service that was excellent and service that I just wouldn’t recommend! This will be your local guide to gastronomy! I will review the quality of the food, service, value for money and ambience, as well as my overall impression. For potential diners, you will gain a helpful guide of the place to, or not to dine. The only catch is that the restaurant will not know that I am coming, so you, the readers of OTS News.co.uk will get an unbiased review of Southport’s restaurants have to offer you! Bon appetite Jacques Gusto is located on the corner of Portland Street and Lord Street Southport, opposite The Prince of Wales Hotel. There is Pay & Display parking outside, £1.20 per hour (free after 6:00pm). ‘Gusto’ Three Courses starter £4.45, main £7.95, sweet £3.75 Presentation good making the starter appetising. Starter – Bruschetta £4.45p The starter consisted of three different types of Bruschetta topping all of which were flavoursome and authentic. The bread used in this dish was crispy and light and all the ingredients fresh, with just the right amount of herbs to make it a very enjoyable starter. Main Course: Polpette al sugo £7.95 Succulent meatballs in aromatic sauce served with pasta. Very tasty pasta dish, which came piping hot … always necessary! Good quality meatballs and pasta done to perfection. Generous portion size and excellent value for money! Main Course 9/10 Sweet: Vanilla Ice Cream £3.75 (Two scoops) Was good Italian quality but a little dear for the amount. Quality of the food, 8/10 Service, 8/10 Value for money 8/10 Ambience, 7/10 Red Wine: De Gras Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Price £16.95 Cabernet Sauvignon (often shortened to “Cab Sav” or even just “Cab”) is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivalled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. The red wine that accompanied the meal had a beautiful aroma was fresh fruity and bold. Interior Overall impression 8.5/10 The place could have done with one or two more staff but it was only 5.30pm. The restaurant seemed to fill up quickly but the waitress attending our table was knowledgeable about the wines and gave useful advise about the main courses. The back dining room (which we were in) is a little dark and lacks atmosphere, and seemed a little cramped but the food is good which is a great positive. The main dining room is much more light and airy. My dining companion had spicy meatballs (starter)£5.45, and a steak main course £16.95. spicy meatballs (above) & Steak (below) The main meal was also served with chips & vegs.
