It’s Rubbish for the young generation

Southport’s Rubbish Friends got a youthful boost when local youngsters swelled their ranks and helped clear more that 30 bags of rubbish from the Marine Lake

The volunteer ‘clean up’ group welcomed 11 year old Damien Evans who was a brilliant help and asset for the team. The operation was led by Cambridge Ward Councillors Pat Keith and Sue McGuire.

“The elements were definitely against us.” said Pat: “We had to battle against pouring rain and wind but nothing puts off our litter heroes and although we were cold and wet we still managed to clear plenty of rubbish.

“ It would be wonderful if people were more thoughtful and took their litter home instead of blighting the landscape as they do.  Hopefully seeing the volunteers in action will stab their conscience and make them think twice about being a tosser.”

Councillor McGuire said “We really appreciate our Rubbish Friends who commit their time and energy for the benefit of Southport.  In order for any organisation to grow they need young members and Pat and I would be delighted if you would like to swell our ranks.”
