Staff and students at King George V College (KGV) are celebrating after being honoured with four awards for their outstanding teaching and exam results across three subject areas.

The Good Schools Guide awarded KGV College for its teaching of Ancient History, Classical Civilisation and Geology. KGV received the following awards in recognition of achieving the best results of any school or college in England:

Good Schools Guide Award for Excellence for Boys taking AS Ancient History

Good Schools Guide Award for Excellence for Girls taking AS Classical Civilisation

Good Schools Guide Award for Excellence for Boys taking A Level Geology

Good Schools Guide Award for Excellence for Girls taking AS Geology

Julia Clayton, Classics Course Leader, said: “It’s great that the hard work of our students and the quality of our teaching is being recognised at a national level.” We won our first Good Schools Guide Award for Classical Civilisation in 2004, and since then we have won at least one award almost every year. However, this is our first award for the Ancient History course, which we introduced more recently, so this is particularly thrilling news,” she said.

Dave Evans, Geology Course Leader, added: “The Geology department at King George V College has been awarded a number of Good Schools Guide Awards over the years. This latest accolade is a fitting tribute to KGV Geology students and reflects their huge enthusiasm for the subject, their outstanding dedication to their studies and their determination to succeed. It has been my very great privilege to introduce them to world of Geology and immensely satisfying to watch them develop into such capable students.”

The Good Schools Guide is the leading independent reviewer of schools in the UK, and distributes awards based on the extensive analysis of examination results from all schools and colleges across the country.
