IT Giants Microsoft Visit Southport College For Keynote Speech March 4th, 2014 admin Latest News Shares Comments Students at Southport College were treated to a visit from IT giants Microsoft who delivered a keynote speech on Cloud Computing. Cloud computing is the collective name given to’ remote or virtual computers connected over a network to provide services’ and is currently experiencing growth rates of 90% per annum. The group heard from Mark McManus, a Cloud Service Manager with Microsoft, who covered topics such as remote server hosting, distributed computing and new cloud computing technologies. Mark said “It was great to visit Southport College and talk to students with such enthusiasm for the industry. I hope my session turned some of that enthusiasm in to inspiration for the students. Cloud computing is becoming firmly integrated in many organisations infrastructure so it is important the future IT professionals are up to speed with it.” Paul Simmons, Curriculum Leader for IT at the College said “This is the second time Microsoft have been in to the College to work with our students. Mark covered a wealth of topics which are at the cutting edge of IT.
