Is Uber the future of taxi-ordering in Southport

Sefton Council Team granted Uber permission to cover the whole of Sefton – including Southport – last year.

A Sefton Council said: “After satisfactorily responding to all our questions concerning compliance with our conditions and relevant legislation, Uber Britannia Ltd were granted a one year Private Hire Operators Licence in June, 2015.

“The company agreed to follow our operator conditions and licensing legislation and any breaches of this may have an impact on any option to renew the licence later this year.”

Resident Carl Radford said: “I already use the app, there’s no need to use cash, clean taxi’s, no tip required and less hassle – definitely a thumbs up!”

According to uber.com, a journey from Liverpool Road in Birkdale to Lord Street in Southport costs between “£3-4” in an UberX car and “£4-6” in an UberXL.

(UberX seats four riders and are usually saloon cars. UberXL seats at least six passengers and will be a minibus or SUV)
