All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible. M56 Junctions 1 with M60 to 3, Baguley, South Manchester A maintenance and repair project is taking place on a motorway bridge over a railway line in south Manchester. The eight-month scheme to repair the bridge – which carries the M56 Sharston Link over the Cheadle Branch railway line – is due to be completed in the autumn. It involves replacing the existing parapets, repairing abutments, installing new expansion joints and bearings maintenance. Drivers are being advised that both the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the M56 between Junction 1 with the M60 and Junction 3 at Baguley, as well as junction slip roads, will be closed overnight occasionally to allow the work to be carried out safely. Clearly-signed diversions will be in place when the road is closed. A66 Kirkby Thore Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the A66 until Friday 17 May while work is carried out to refurbish the pavement. A494 Chester Half Marathon The eastbound and westbound slip roads from the A494 to the A540 Parkgate Road will be closed from 8.55am on Sunday 12 May for the Chester Half Marathon. The slip roads are expected to remain closed until at least 10.30am, and a clearly signed diversion will be in place. A590 Prior to Brettargh Holt One lane will be closed on the eastbound side of the A590 between Prior and Brettargh Holt between 9.30am and 3.30pm while maintenance work is carried out to the footpath. The work is due to be completed by Friday 17 May. – Keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety. – Get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching. – Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks. – Be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks. – Keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front. – Observe all signs – they are there to help you.
