The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 10 May but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M56 Junctions 1 with M60 to 3, Baguley, South Manchester

A maintenance and repair project is taking place on a motorway bridge over a railway line in south Manchester. The eight-month scheme to repair the bridge – which carries the M56 Sharston Link over the Cheadle Branch railway line – is due to be completed in the autumn. It involves replacing the existing parapets, repairing abutments, installing new expansion joints and bearings maintenance. Drivers are being advised that both the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the M56 between Junction 1 with the M60 and Junction 3 at Baguley, as well as junction slip roads, will be closed overnight occasionally to allow the work to be carried out safely. Clearly-signed diversions will be in place when the road is closed.

A66 Kirkby Thore

Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the A66 until Friday 17 May while work is carried out to refurbish the pavement.

A66 Bassenthwaite Lake

The westbound side of the A66 will be closed for routine maintenance until Sunday 19 May. Traffic will be diverted onto the eastbound side of the dual carriageway.

A66 Threlkeld

Temporary traffic lights will be in place between 9am and 4.30pm on Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 May for maintenance work.

A69 Newcastle to Carlisle

Work to resurface seven sections of the A69 between Newcastle and Carlisle is due to start on Monday 13 May, and will include Brampton, Hayton and Warwick Bridge in Cumbria. The project will be carried out between 7pm and 7am, and temporary speed limits will be in place. Part of the roundabout linking the A69 with the A689 at Brampton will be closed for two nights from Monday 3 to Wednesday 5 June, with traffic being diverted along a short section of the A689. HGVs will also be diverted along the A689 between Junction 44 of the M6 and Brampton when work places place at Warwick Bridge. The scheme is due to be completed on Friday 28 June.

– Keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety.

– Get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching.

– Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks.

– Be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks.

– Keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front.

– Observe all signs – they are there to help you.
