Info for Southport motorists on NorthWest motorways for Monday 28 – Sunday 4 May 2014

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 25 April but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M6 Junction 16 Crewe to Junction 19 Knutsford

Sections of the hard shoulder on the M6 between Crewe and Knutsford will be closed while drainage, structural and other surveys are carried out. Some lane closures will also been needed overnight, although the motorway will remain open at all times. The scheme is due to be completed by Friday 2 May.

M6 Junctions 20 to 21 Thelwall Viaduct

A scheme is taking place to replace expansion joints along the Thelwall Viaduct. When one of the bridges is being worked on, three lanes will run almost normally but with the fourth lane switched onto the opposite carriageway. All of the lanes will be narrowed during the work, with a 40mph speed limit in place. The work is due to be completed in June.

M6 Junction 32 Preston to 33 Lancaster

Waterproofing work to a motorway bridge along the northbound section of the M6 between junctions 32 and 33 will take place overnight from the evening of Friday 25 until the morning of Monday 28 April. The northbound carriageway will be closed between 10pm and 6am each night, with a diversion in place.

M56 Junctions 8 Altrincham to 9 Lymm

A project is taking place to install a new concrete safety barrier along a half-a-mile section of the M56. Drainage improvements and resurfacing work will also be carried out, and the scheme is due to be completed by Wednesday 11 June. The motorway will remain open at all times but with a lane three closure throughout the project. Lane two of the carriageway in each direction will also close overnight throughout the project. Drivers will be able to use the hard shoulder as a running lane throughout the work, and a 50mph speed limit will be in place.
