All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible. M6 Junction 33 Lancaster A project is taking place to repair bridges carrying the M6 over local roads. The work involves routine concrete repairs and installing new safety barriers along the southbound carriageway just north of Junction 33. The work is due to be completed by Friday 20 December. Some lane closures and a 50mph speed limit will be in place. M6 Junction 38 Tebay A contraflow system is in place on the M6 near Junction 38 at Tebay as part of a major refurbishment of a motorway bridge which carries the M6 over the River Lune. Southbound traffic will be directed into lanes on the northbound carriageway while the bridge is closed for the repairs. Two lanes will run in each direction and a 40mph speed limit will be in place. The project is due to be completed by March 2014 M6 Junction 39 Shap The northbound exit slip road at Junction 39 of the M6 will be closed overnight for resurfacing between 8pm and 6am from Monday 16 until Thursday 19 December 2013. A diversion will be in place when the slip road is closed, and one lane closure will remain shut during the day. M55 Junction 1 Broughton Resurfacing work, drainage repairs and lighting installation is being carried out around Broughton Interchange, north of Preston, affecting both the eastbound and westbound M55 links to and from the southbound M6. All the work will be taking place between 8pm and 6am each night with lane closures in place. Some full closures of the motorway carriageways will also be necessary, which will be publicised on the motorway in advance. Diversions will be in place when the road is closed, and the project is due to be completed by Friday 20 December. M60 Junction 24 Denton A major project is taking place to boost safety and reduce congestion at Junction 24 of the M60 at the Denton Island roundabout where the motorway meets the M67 and the A57. The first phase of the project is due to be completed by February next year, with a second phase due to start in March. No work will take place over the Christmas and New Year holidays, and the whole project is due to be completed by June 2014. All of the work during the first phase will take place overnight, and involve lane closures and speed limit reductions on the slip roads and roundabout. At times, full slip road closures will be needed overnight with clearly-signed diversions in place. M62 Junction 11 Birchwood to Junction 12 Eccles Interchange Work is taking place to resurface and replace road markings and studs on all lanes of the M62 in both directions from junction 11 to 12. There will be a series of overnight lane closures running Fridays to Mondays from 10.00pm to 5.00am with single lane running and a 50mph speed restriction. Between 5.00am and 10.00pm on Mondays all lanes will be kept open, and there will be daytime single lane closures on Saturdays and Sundays. Work will be completed in January 2014. M602 Salford Work is taking place to resurface and carry out drainage repairs along the M602 along parts of both carriageways and slip roads between Junction 1 at Eccles and Junction 3 at Regent Road. The work is being carried out overnight between 10pm and 5am on weeknights, and between 10pm and 7am at weekends. There will be some overnight closures of slip roads and carriageways around Junctions 2 and 3 and occasional overnight closures of the link roads to the M60 from Junction 1. Clearly signed diversions will be in place at these times. Work will be completed by Thursday 13 April, and will be postponed over Christmas and the New Year. A55 Chester Resurfacing, repair and maintenance work is taking place along the A55 near the junction with the A483, south of Chester. The scheme, which includes drainage repairs and replacing road signs, is due to be completed by Friday 20 December. All of the work will be carried out overnight on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, between 10pm and 5am. Clearly signed diversions will be in place when parts of the road are closed. A66 Keswick and Appleby Resurfacing work is taking place along a mile-long stretch of the A66 between Keswick and Crosthwaite Roundabout, and should be completed by Saturday 18 January. Work to resurface a two-mile section of the A66 near Appleby will also start on Monday 16 December and should be completed by Sunday 2 February. Work will be carried out between 8pm and 6am, and between 9.30am and 3.30pm. No work will be taking place over the Christmas and New Year holiday period. Temporary traffic lights and a reduced speed limit will be in place. A66 Penrith Work is taking place to tackle potholes and carry out other repairs along a section of the A66 between Penruddock and Highgate, west of Penrith. The scheme involves resurfacing, replacing reflective road studs and road markings, and kerb and drainage repairs. Work will be carried out between 8pm and 6am overnight, and between 9.30am and 3.30pm during the day. Temporary traffic lights and a 40mph speed limit will be in place, and the project is due to be finished by Friday 20 December. A590 Dalton-in-Furness A project is underway to improve drainage on a mile-long section of the A590 near Dalton-in-Furness. Most of the work will be carried out using narrowed lanes, with temporary traffic lights in place between 9.30am and 3.30pm. There will also be a 40mph speed limit and laybys will be closed. No work will take place during the festive period, from Friday 20 December until Monday 6 January, and the project is due to be completed by Sunday 26 January. A590 / A5092 Greenodd Work is taking place to build a new roundabout linking the A590 to the A5092 at Greenodd, with the aim of reducing congestion and improving safety. The A590 currently forms a T-junction with the A5092, with traffic having to pull into a gap in the central reservation to turn right towards Ulverston.
