The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 19 April but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M6 Jct 40 Northbound entry slip

The slip road will be closed overnight on Tuesday 23 April for examination of a railway bridge from 10.00pm to 6.00am.

M6 Between Jct 41 – 42 Southbound

There will be night time hard shoulder running on Tuesday 23 April from 10.00am to 6.00pm while a bridge is inspected.

M56 Junctions 1 with M60 to 3, Baguley, South Manchester

A maintenance and repair project is taking place on a motorway bridge over a railway line in south Manchester. The eight-month scheme to repair the bridge – which carries the M56 Sharston Link over the Cheadle Branch railway line – is due to be completed in the autumn. It involves replacing the existing parapets, repairing abutments, installing new expansion joints and bearings maintenance. Drivers are being advised that both the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the M56 between Junction 1 with the M60 and Junction 3 at Baguley, as well as junction slip roads, will be closed overnight occasionally to allow the work to be carried out safely. Clearly-signed diversions will be in place when the road is closed.

M58 Junctions 4 and 5

Resurfacing work will be carried out along the M58 in Lancashire from 9.00pm Friday 19th April until 5.00am Monday 22nd  April.  During this time there will be a 50mph speed limit and eastbound carriageway and slip road closures at junctions 4 and 5. Clearly signed diversions will be in place at all times.

M62 Junction 10 / M6 Junction 21a Croft Interchange

A project is taking place to improve the slip roads from the M62 onto the M6 by resurfacing the roads, and installing new lighting and safety barriers. All of the work is being carried out overnight, between 10pm and 5am during the week and until 7am on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The project is taking place in stages and is due to be completed by the end of April. Clearly signed diversions will be in place when slip roads are closed.

A590 Brettargh Holt

There will be a 24hr land closure eastbound for work until Friday 26 April

The Highways Agency is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads.  For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks:

– Keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety.

– Get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching.

– Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks.

– Be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks.

– Keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front.

– Observe all signs – they are there to help you.
