Info for Southport Motorists on North West Motorways Monday 15 April – Sunday 22 April April 13th, 2013 admin Latest News Shares Comments The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 12 April but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible. M6 Junctions 22 to 23 Newton-le-Willows Work is underway to upgrade safety barriers, repaint lines and replace cats’ eyes and markings between Junctions 22 and 23 of the M6. The majority of work will take place overnight between 10pm and 5am, and hard shoulder and lane closures will be in place. The project is due to be completed by Sunday 21 April. M56 Junctions 1 with M60 to 3, Baguley, South Manchester A maintenance and repair project is taking place on a motorway bridge over a railway line in south Manchester. The eight-month scheme to repair the bridge – which carries the M56 Sharston Link over the Cheadle Branch railway line – is due to be completed in the autumn. It involves replacing the existing parapets, repairing abutments, installing new expansion joints and bearings maintenance. Drivers are being advised that both the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the M56 between Junction 1 with the M60 and Junction 3 at Baguley, as well as junction slip roads, will be closed overnight occasionally to allow the work to be carried out safely. Clearly-signed diversions will be in place when the road is closed. M62 Junction 10 / M6 Junction 21a Croft Interchange A project is taking place to improve the slip roads from the M62 onto the M6 by resurfacing the roads, and installing new lighting and safety barriers. All of the work is being carried out overnight, between 10pm and 5am during the week and until 7am on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The project is taking place in stages and is due to be completed by the end of April. Clearly signed diversions will be in place when slip roads are closed. M602 Salford A project is taking place to provide extra capacity for traffic heading into Salford and Manchester along the M602. Most of the work is being carried out overnight with some work on the hard shoulder during the daytime. There will be occasional night time lane closures and full eastbound carriageway closures to install traffic management cones. During these times, there will be a diversion from Junction 2 via the A57. The work is due to be complete by Sunday 21 April. A590 Between Brettargh Holt Roundabout and M6 Junction 36 There will be a 24hr closure of lane 1 eastbound for survey works from Sunday 21 April until Friday 26 April. The Highways Agency is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads. For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks: – Keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety. – Get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching. – Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks. – Be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks. – Keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front. – Observe all signs – they are there to help you.
