Iain Booth ‘The Mexico Disaster’ at Broadhursts within Southport Flower Show 2013

Iain Booth, one of the sponsors of the book and Lifeboat supporter will be present at Southport Flower Show on Saturday 17th August 2013 wth copies of the book and will be happy to answer any questions visitors may have.”   “The Wreck of the Mexico” by Frank Kilroy. Originally published in 1986, on the centenary of this, the worst ever disaster to strike the Lifeboat service, the book was re-published on the 9th December 2012, thanks to the support of Broadhurst and local supporters.

With an addendum by David Forshaw, the book was published in memory of the author to raise funds for the Lytham St Annes Lifeboat.

The book tells in depth the events surrounding the wreck of the German sailing ship “Mexico” in the Ribble estuary on the 9th December 1886.

It gives a vivid account of the saving of the crew by the Lytham lifeboat and the loss of the two lifeboats and their volunteer crews, from Southport and St. Annes. The book goes on to explain the major impact the events had on Victorian Britain and the longer term effects which are still evident in the 21st century. Costing £8.95 the book is available from Broadhursts Booksellers in Market Street, Southport and from the  Lifeboat station at Lytham St Annes.

Thanks to generous sponsorship all the proceeds from sales will go to the RNLI Lytham St Annes station.     For more information please call Broadhursts on 01704 532064 Broadhursts, Market Street, Southport.   Telephone: 01704 532064 fax: 01704 542009 Email Broadhursts: [email protected] Business Website Address: www.ckbroadhurst.co.uk
