‘I think it’s disgraceful’ – ‘mindless’ vandals pull down handrail

‘MINDLESS’ vandals have left the footbridge at the north end of Hampton Road Southport in a dangerous state after ripping it from its foundations.

About six teenage boys were reportedly seen by residents renching the rail from its foundations before running off.

A Hampton Road resident described it as “disgraceful”.

She said: “I do not know what it’s coming to. They can’t say they have nothing to do. This town provides a great deal for young people to do. I don’t know where the parents are.

“Us elderly folk rely on this bride and now it’s unsafe.

“I’m ashamed. I think it’s disgraceful.”

“This problem was reported to Sefton Council on Monday 19 December, still nothing has been done to make the bridge safe.”

And she called on residents to report acts of vandalism to the police.
