Heartless thieves steal Southport Pier plaques October 2nd, 2013 admin Latest News Shares Comments Heartless thieves steal Southport Pier plaques Over twenty pier plaques have been stolen from Southport Pier. The brass memory plaques have been unscrewed from the pier decking and stolen for scrap value. Some of the memory plaques should have been treated as priceless objects but instead considered by thieves as mere junk and valued as scrap metal worth less than £20. A Pier spokesperson said:” The people responsible for this unscrupulous act in second-hand metal should be exposed if caught.” Most sickening is the big rise in the number of reports of thieves plundering war memorials, leading to a series of court cases with criminals. Many in Eastern European gangs have been jailed for selling stolen metal. Submit News Contact us with your community, business or sport news.
