Community Café and Charity Shop Open In Scarisbrick Avenue

A new Community Café and Charity Shop, specialising in Childrens clothes, toys and equipment at 7-9 Scarisbrick Avenue, Southport opened its doors this morning.

Sharon Gregory-Wareing said: “The venue will have a dual purpose of securing a regular income stream in our bid to become more self-reliant and less dependent on grant applications.

“The Community Venue will be a lot more than a way of raising funds, it will be a training project for disadvantaged unemployed local people to gain real life work experience in a variety of roles connected to catering and retail, as well as qualifications such as first aid, health & Safety and food hygiene, making them more employable”.

“It will also be a community hub for older members of the community to come and learn new skills such as flower arranging, computer skills and take part in social events such as prize bingo.

“The venue will also give local musicians and artists the opportunity to showcase their talents to an invited audience free of charge, as our costs will be covered through providing food and drinks to the audience and a small percentage of any sales of the artists work”.
