Health Watchdog calls for to residents to be ready for NHS fight

Community carved out of hospital shake-up by NHS chiefs

Southport and Formby residents need to be prepared for bad news and to be ready to campaign for their local hospital says a local Health watchdog.

Councillor Tony Dawson, local Lib Dem spokesperson on Heath said:

“This week, health bosses have tossed their ideas for a major re-jig of the region’s hospital services in to Ministers without any input whatsoever from the community representatives. Local Councils’ Health Scrutiny Committees have been kept completely in the dark.”

“We do not know what is going to come out of this ‘Sustainability and Transformation Process’ or when precisely it is going to come but, mark my words, it will not be good for our area and we will need to be prepared to stand up and fight for our local NHS. There is simply not enough money to go round.”

“A single ‘delivery network’ has been established by the Health bosses which stretches right around Liverpool like a collar from Southport to Warrington and Widnes. Creation of such a unit is a form of madness which would never be contemplated y anyone who understands the local communities of Merseyside and South West Lancashire. I can only see it as a device to deliver deep cuts in our NHS.”
