Get swimming at Dunes Southport April 29th, 2014 jmr jmr Latest News Latest Sports Latest Whats On Shares Comments Swimming lessons are now available for children of all ages and abilities at Dunes Leisure Centre, Southport. The swimming programme is based upon a framework called the British Gas Learn to Swim Pathway, produced by the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) – the national governing body for swimming. All swimming instructors are ASA qualified and swimmers are continuously assessed and will progress at their own rate with an emphasis on fun. Ian Thomas, Aquatics co-ordinator at Sefton Council, said: “Sadly drowning is the third most common cause of accidental death for children in the UK. “It is really important children learn to swim as soon as possible, as in reality, swimming is the only sport which can actually save your life. “Swimming is also a passport to dozens of other water based activities such as triathlons, life saving, surfing, and water-skiing, so if your child cannot yet swim, please get in touch. “Lessons are now available at Dunes Leisure Centre for children of all ages and capabilities.” Membership to the swimming lesson programme includes free swimming in public swim sessions in all Sefton Council’s swimming pools (Dunes, Meadows and Bootle). Lessons start from £4 per lesson (payable by monthly Direct Debit) and discounts are also available for siblings with a wide choice of classes running 6 days a week (Monday to Saturday).
