Get Active and Sporty in Sefton This Summer

The summer holidays are nearly here and Sefton Council has launched a jam packed calendar of fun filled, sporting activities for children of all ages.

Street Games, aimed at children and young people aged 8+, launches on July 11 and takes place in parks across the borough, with a brand new session debuting in Duke Street Park, Formby. The long running programme is FREE to attend and attendees can take part in a range of sports, including football, basketball and fitness sessions.

The ever popular Be Active programme is also returning this summer, complete with an Olympic twist for those children inspired by the events in Rio. Launching on July 24, Be Active will host a whole range of camps and sessions, including dance workshops, football academy – including the latest Zorb football craze – and ultimate Frisbee.

Sefton Council will also be running a 5 day preschool learn to swim crash course for parents wanting to get their children confident in the water. While there is also ‘Finding Dory’ themed sessions set to take place.

Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre, located near the world famous Another Place, will be holding an open day on Sunday, July 24. The FREE event will give those more amphibious children a chance to take part in taster sessions, complete with boat hire. While on land there will be entertainment for the whole family, including a rodeo bull, bouncy castle, hog roast and live DJ.

Visitors to Southport will be able to get wet and wild at Splash World all week from July onwards with the summer opening hours coming into effect. Plus with the loyalty card scheme, regular visitors will able to ride the slides four times for the price of three.

Cllr Ian Moncur, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “We have so many fantastic facilities, programmes and sessions across the borough there really is something for everyone in Sefton.

“We have a commitment to ensuring that children and young people enjoy fun filled, active lifestyles in the borough and I know that the teams here at Sefton Council have been working very hard to put together a varied and enjoyable programme of sessions.

“I look forward to seeing some packed out events during the coming months.”

Tickets for this year’s Sefton Sports Awards are now available for £18. The event, which celebrates the achievements of Sefton’s sporting community, takes place on Wednesday, July 13 at Southport Theatre and Convention Centre. Guest of honour, Liverpool WFC’s 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Bronze Medal Winner, Alex Greenwood will in attendance and talking about her career so far.
