Year 5 pupils from St. John’s Primary School in Crossens swapped books for burritos and maths for mocktails recently when they visited local eatery Fuego’s for a restaurant experience day.

During an action-packed day, children planned, prepared, cooked and consumed their own lunch, ably supported by the Fuego’s staff, and also created and tasted their own mocktails.

The trip also allowed children to get a taste of what it is like to work in the restaurant industry by sampling different service, bar and kitchen responsibilities, and by grilling staff on what their experiences have been like.

Children and adults alike from St. John’s thoroughly enjoyed the experience, expressing thanks to the restaurant for opening its doors to them. “What a fantastic day! The Fuego’s staff members were so lovely with the children, and it was a brilliant experience for our pupils to be able to explore the restaurant so freely and fully,” said Anna Patterson of St. John’s. Bellis Shukla, a Year 5 pupil, added: “I had a wonderful time making my drink and main meal; my burrito was delicious. Thank you Fuego’s! 5*.”
