Freshfield in Formby Wins CAMRA’s Merseyside Top Pub Award

The Freshfield pub in Formby recently won the Campaign for Real Ale’s Pub of the Year Award for the County of Merseyside, and a presentation was made to the pub last Tuesday. The pub will now go up against a Macclesfield pub as a contender for the regional award.

If it is successful as regional winner it will compete with other regions in the UK in the national competition, with a hope that at the end of the year it could be Britain’s top CAMRA pub.

Taken into consideration when the pub is being surveyed by members are:-

Quality of Beer/Cider/Perry

Clientèle Mix

Sympathy with CAMRA Aims

Valuefor Money

The beer quality has a special weighting, so only pubs with good beers have a chance!

The two licensees Simon Cox and Steven Gregory, though fairly recent at the Freshfield, have good pub backgrounds and the pub has experienced amazing success, especially after its recent refurbishment.  This one of the top cask conditioned beer pubs in the area and usually has a choice of 14 real ales.
