1st August 2015

The free seafront show, which features a whole host of incredible flying machines and attracts thousands of people to the Promenade each year, has been set for Sunday 9 and Monday 10 August.

Featuring the world famous RAF Red Arrows – who recently opened their exciting new ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach – the incredible Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and a group of daredevil wing walkers as well as a range of new and exciting displays, the show is not one to be missed.

Organisers are promising the Best of British aviation and are hoping for fair weather to allow the flying machines to showcase their skills to their maximum ability.

And with music and entertainment throughout the weekend from the family-friendly Rock FM street team it’s ideal day out for air enthusiasts and perfect for the kids!

Cllr Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council, said: “This year marks 106 years since the first ever Blackpool Flight Week and we’ve been putting on an Air Show, in one form or another, ever since which is incredible in itself.

“With the Red Arrows in action, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, some incredible stunt planes and helicopters and even the Red Devils parachuting in, it’s going to be a truly fantastic weekend.

“I would urge people, whether they’ve experienced the magic of the Blackpool Air Show before or whether it’s a whole new experience, to come along and enjoy the show.

“It’s going to be spectacular.”

Caroline Anchor, Head of Marketing at First TransPennine Express, said: “It’s great to see the Air Show back in Blackpool and this year’s event is set to see some fantastic displays.

“As one of the major rail operators in the area, we are thrilled to be the official travel sponsor for this amazing event.”

The contest this year is hosted in association with media partner Rock FM who will provide entertainment on the day for the thousands in attendance.

As well as big names like the RAF Red Arrows showcasing their incredible formation precision flying on the Sunday, there are also displays from two local military giants – the BAE Warton built-Eurofighter Typhoon and a fully restored, Blackpool-based “Huey” helicopter.

The Huey is an iconic, celebrated American helicopter which played a vital role in the conflicts in Vietnam and Korea.

As part of the Air Show the Vulcan XH558 Bomber will make its last ever appearance over Blackpool skies.

It was announced earlier this year that the aircraft was to be retired.

There is also a Blackpool first with the historic Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress coming to the resort for the first time ever.
