Southport has been warned for the possibility of traffic and travel disruptions this week as forecasters predict snow fall on the resort.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for Wednesday and Thursday this week as the cold weather of last week returns to hit the north west.

The Met Office said that wind flow of up to 32mph, and gusts of 56mph, is likely to bring up to 5cm of snow locally and 10cm in higher grounds across Merseyside and West Lancashire.

The snow showers are likely to cause poor visibility and people should take care on the roads.

The week starts out a little more pleasant with spells of rain before the snow is predicted to stick.
