Folk Music In The Park

An afternoon of fabulous free music is taking place in Hesketh Park, Southport.

Sefton Council’s Parks and Greenspaces team have teamed up with The Corduroy Folk Club to bring a unique event to the popular park on Sunday, April 28.

Called ‘Folk In The Park’, local folk bands, songwriters and residents of the Bothy Folk Club will all take to stage. Some of the artists include: Southport singer/songwriter, David Hirst,  Folk Duo Tony Gibbons and Kate Bradbury from Liverpool and Maghull piper, Ken Beamer. Folk singers Keith Price from Liverpool and Ormskirk’s Alistair Vannan will also perform on the day.

A Family Ceilidh will also be present encouraging the audience, particulary children, to get on their feet and have a dance.

The event is free to all and will take place on the lawn by the cafe from 1pm-5.30pm. Anyone attending is recommended to bring a picnic to enjoy throughout the day.   Cllr Ian Moncur, Cabinet Member Children, Schools, Families and Leisure, said: “Sefton has a wide range of superb parks and open spaces and Hesketh Park in Southport is no exception.

“The setting should provide an excellent backdrop to a family oriented afternoon of great folk music.

“By joining forces with The Corduroy Folk Club some excellent folk artists will be performing in an event which is totally free, so please do you best to attend and make a day out of it.”   For more information on the event call 0151 934 2421.
