‘Fluke’ Free parking should be a regular event in Southport

5th December 2015

Councillor David Barton last night suggested the recent ‘fluke’ free parking on London Street should be considered as a regular event to help local businesses.

The recent bad weather has forced workers repainting the traffic enforcement lines on the road to stop until the bad weather ends.

And their enforced break has coincided with small business Saturday meaning shoppers using local businesses have benefitted from free parking.

Councillor Barton said: “the freak bad weather has meant the contractors working on London Street have been unable to finish the job.

“But it has helped local businesses as residents have been able to park for free and browse in the shops longer than they perhaps usually would.

“I will be speaking to the relevant departments at the council to see if we can organise something of this nature on a regular basis.”
