Ex-servicemen meet in Southport to mark anniversary of Victory in Japan

A crowd met in Southport to mark the 70th Anniversary of Victory in Japan, Saturday 15 August 2105.

The VJ Day service took place on Saturday 17 th August at Christ Church on Lord Street. The event was organised by former Spitfire pilot Peter Proctor who is 93 and is one of just three surviving members of the Burma Star Association. Peter laid a wreath at the Cenotaph memorial on Lord Street at 11am. Peter who now lives in Churchtown ,spent five years in the RAF, flying in countries such as India, Singapore and Burma.
