England & Scotland Come Together to Create an Exciting and Unmissable Sound

The Tweed Project is an exciting new collaboration from some of the best award-winning young musicians out there on the UK folk music scene combining the talents of English folk duo Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar, with Scottish trio Mischa MacPherson, Innes White and Ali Levack.

Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar released their debut album, The Queen’s Lover in 2012, won the BBC Young Folk Award in February 2013 and then the Horizon Award, for best newcomers, at the main event at the Royal Albert Hall a year later. Their latest album, The Call, was one of our featured albums on Folk Radio UK. In his review Simon made clear references to the height of their skills: “It straddles that paradox of seeming so simply done, yet brimming with passion and conspicuous craft…There is a massive amount of skill on tap.”

Likewise, Mischa MacPherson, along with her trio, was the 2014 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award winner. She also went on to pick up the Gaelic Singer of the Year Award at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards in December 2014. Mischa is a Gaelic native and clarsach player from Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides and her talent is quite amazing for one so young. For this new project she is joined by Innes White, an accomplished guitarist, mandolin player, pianist and singer and Ali Levack who’s been perfecting his piping skills since the age of 9.

All of these players constitute a serious amount of skill and more importantly a huge amount of musical passion which has driven them to the heights they’re now at. They will be showcasing their music at a number of festivals through the summer including Shepley Folk Festival this month followed by Southwell, Folk at the Hall in Wales, Warwick, Towersey Festival and more.

The Award winning line up together create an exciting and unmissable sound that can be heard at The Atkinson on Friday 7 August at 7.30pm. Tickets are £12.
