EEC Home Improvements in Southport took on an epic challenge this Valentine’s weekend, a 6 hour non-stop Spinathon on Sunday 16th February, all to raise money for Queenscourt Hospice!

EEC Home Improvements arranged the event which in total covered 65 hours of non-stop spinning. Spinning is a high-intensity exercise involving routines that simulate outdoor cycling including hill climbs, sprints and interval training and can burn up to 900 calories an hour!

Held at Southport Star Fitness club on Rufford Road and led by ex-royal marine and fully qualified spin instructor, Ste Howard from Go Commando, the team were really put through their paces and pushed to exhaustion in a gruelling 6-hour challenge.

18 members of staff from EEC Home Improvements signed up to the challenge in the hope to raise as much money as possible for one of their favourite charities, Queenscourt Hospice.

As it was Valentine’s weekend, the event was themed around ‘love’ and called “Spin for Love” with red balloons, heart banners and motivational posters placed around the room, however love was the last thing they felt.

Thanks to the generosity of both local and national companies every participant also received a goody bag for taking part!

The event started at 1pm and after just 15 minutes, the pain was written across everyone’s faces! With the music blaring, the lights flashing, everyone put 100% effort in.

The event wasn’t just about spinning – EEC were spinning whilst doing squats, push-ups and some real quad busting moves.

Nicola, Charity Co-Ordinator from EEC said, “It was tough, we did lots of up-hill climbs and fast spins and lots of resistance training!

In the 5th hour, when Ste told everyone to remove the seats from their bikes I thought he was joking. He wasn’t joking, we did an hour straight cycling – without a seat, so no breaks!

It was crazy but every minute was worth it to raise money for Queenscourt Hospice”.

They are still collecting in the sponsorship money but EEC are close to raising £700 for Queenscourt if not more! They would like to say a massive ‘Thank you’ to their official sponsor for providing crates of water and sweets, Southport Star Fitness Gym (01704 213814); Southport’s only dedicated ABA Boxing Club for hosting the event and Ste Howard from Go Commando for leading the team through their paces!
