Bernard Laverty will take over the position from outgoing chair Michael Pinfold on 1 January 2014. Bernard was elected to the position from the University’s lay Governors. He was initially appointed as an independent governor of Edge Hill in 2005, and is a non-executive director of Edge Hill Enterprises Limited. He was admitted to membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in 1984 and worked in private practice in Liverpool with PKF and Preston with KPMG. He went on to join Lancashire textile company David Whitehead & Sons Limited where in 1996 he led a management buyout of the company. John Cater, Vice-Chancellor of Edge Hill University said: “We look forward to welcoming Bernard to his new position as Chair of Governors and Pro-Chancellor at a time when we are undertaking more state-of-the art campus developments and enjoying great levels of student satisfaction. “At the same time we also would like to take this opportunity to thank Michael, our outgoing Chair, for his dedication and hard work over the last 12 years and his enormous contribution to our successes at the University.
