Downpours this evening have caused flash flooding in Southport this evening, Thursday 16 June 2016.

The flooding has now retrieved on the Coastal road but was causing huge disruption earlier this evening.

Adam Wood said: “Can you tell the people of Southport not to drive on the coast road by the pier as the whole underneath of the pier is flooded with about 2ft deep of water.”

A number of homes in the Ainsdale area are currently without electricity, with a power cut currently affecting a lot of homes.

A Met Office weather warning for rain is in place in parts of the North West – including Merseyside, Halton, Warrington and Cheshire – until 10pm tonight (Thursday 16 June).
