Sefton Council has responded quickly to reports by Dukes Ward Lib Dem councillor Tony Dawson about one rapidly-increasing dip in the middle of Weld Road, Birkdale, and another smaller problem nearby. The Council have now inspected the sites of both these highway defects.

The smaller of the two depressions, outside no  7 Weld Road was the site of a broken gully connection a couple of years ago:  Councillor Dawson has been promised that the Council’s Drainage section will make investigations with their contractor and effect the necessary repairs.

The larger dip outside 18  and 25 Weld Road appears to be a utility repair that has settled seriously. The Council’s Network section have been asked to identify which utility is responsible and then  action the necessary defect repair.

The Council thinks that neither problem require immediate action, nor have they yet taken any action over the substantial depression in the middle of Duke Street near Talbot Street junction.

“It is quite possible, says Councillor Dawson, “given the way the street is going, that it will be time to completely re-lay Duke Street between Lord Street and the railway line before Sefton Council get around to repairing this dip.”
