The annual search is on to find the High Sheriff of Lancashire’s Young Citizen of the Year 2016 as part of a countywide competition.

Do you know someone who has made a real difference in their community, supported a local organisation or has selflessly helped a family member or neighbour and deserves recognition?

This year, High Sheriff Amanda Parker is welcoming applications about young, inspiring people who have put others first.

She said: “As High Sheriff I am committed to recognising the many young people who are doing fantastic work in their communities, making them safer and happier places to live.

“They give selflessly of their time to support and help their peers and neighbours of all ages. We want you to tell us about someone you know who is doing this, someone deserving of an award.”

The awards are designed to promote and celebrate the fantastic work that young people do every day which goes unheard and unrecognised.

BAE Systems are once again the proud sponsors for this year’s competition.

BAE’s Ian Wood, Operations Director – Combat Air and Site Director of Samlesbury, said: “We know from previous entries across the years that there are a great number of young people in the county who make an outstanding contribution to the communities in which they live.

“It is on that basis, that we are tremendously proud to support these awards and extremely keen to encourage people to put nominations forward.”

Lancashire Constabulary’s Chief Constable Steve Finnigan added: “This award highlights the contribution that young people can make towards supporting people in Lancashire by reducing vulnerability and building community resilience.

“We want our young people to feel engaged, valued and that they have a voice in how we make our County a better place to live.

“We know through our Volunteer Police Cadets that young people have a lot to offer and I am really pleased to play a part in making sure they get the recognition and support they deserve.”

The scheme is being managed by the Lancashire Partnership Against Crime (LANPAC) on behalf of the High Sheriff and the closing date for nominations is January 31, 2016.

Winners and runners up are selected by the High Sheriff and a panel of judges from LANPAC, Lancashire Constabulary, BAE Systems and former High Sheriff Rodney Swarbrick, who initiated this Award.

All finalists will be invited to attend a presentation at Lancashire Constabulary Headquarters in Spring 2016 when the winner will receive £500 towards a project or charity of their choice plus a specially commissioned trophy and certificate from Lancashire’s High Sheriff and Chief Constable.

Approval of a parent or guardian is needed for the nomination, subsequent publicity and any future events involving the finalists.
